Helpful books

For those with access to the World Wide Web, many web sites provide information quickly. Some of those web sites are described below.

For those who have the time to locate them, several books are helpful.

You may visit the website of the college or university you will attend through UScampus College Profiles. If you have not, do so. You will want to visit the parts of the school’s site related to admissions, your academic department, the international student office, housing, health services, recreation, counseling services, and the student newspaper.

Prior to your arrival in the United States, you will need to make travel plans to your school campus. You will also need to know about your interview at the port of entry, the form I-94, the Customs and luggage regulations, and health insurance. All these information may be found on UScampus Website.

You may also find information about the city or town where your school is located through UScampus Website under Community Information. You may find information helpful to prepare for your arrival in the United States, such information as: airport location, local transportation available, health insurance, banks, telephone services, hospitals and hotels around the campus.

You may also link directly to the State Information page to know the State where you will be living in. You may find the resources available in that state as well as the weather and climate in that state. These information would be helpful to pack your personal belongs for your studying in that state.

You may also want to search for Chinese Student Association (CSA) from the School Website, if there is one. Try locating it by (1) looking on your school's International Student Office web site for links to student organizations, or (2), looking on your school's Student Activities Office site for links to student organizations.

The U.S. Department of State offers extensive predeparture information.
