For
most new students, the days immediately following arrival in
the United States are extremely stressful. The students are
tired. They have pressing concerns about where they will sleep
and eat. They are overwhelmed with the large number of new
things, from the climate and the smell of things to the workings
of the transportation system. Their ability to communicate
in English is limited, probably more so than they expected.
